Preparing the Site for Glen-Ed Pantry’s Future Home
Removed trees will be repurposed within the new building and replaced through planned replanting
Jan. 15, 2026, Edwardsville, IL — As Glen-Ed Pantry prepares for construction of its new permanent facility, the organization has removed a small grove of trees located within the building’s footprint.
The trees were situated directly where the new pantry building and required parking must be constructed. The grove was densely overcrowded, and several of the trees were already in decline. Following a careful evaluation of tree health, site safety, and long-term viability, it was determined that the trees could not remain in place.
In keeping with its commitment to stewardship and sustainability, Glen-Ed Pantry is working with its construction team to repurpose the removed trees rather than discard them. The wood will be milled and incorporated into interior elements of the new building, including windowsills, trim, and feature walls. This approach creates a lasting, visible connection to the land and preserves the site’s history within a space dedicated to serving the community.
Following construction, new trees and native landscaping will be planted around the facility to restore shade, green space, and natural beauty. Glen-Ed Pantry will continue to share updates on the project’s progress through its website and official social media channels.
